The Roosevelt Raceway Memorial was founded by racing fans including the founder and webmaster, Christopher James in 2004. This was not Christopher’s first website on the Westbury landmark. During the new internet age of 2001, his first website was created as a 2 page dedication. There was very little information available and internet was new at the time.
By 2004, with the help of fellow racing fans, the website was relaunched as the Roosevelt Raceway Memorial which quickly boomed with weekly attendances by the thousands. The website exploded to over 50 pages of content, many photographs donated by racing fans.
Since we have been live full time since February 2004, we have received thousands of messages and comments over the years and it proves that we made the right decision of creating the website and hosting 48 years of memories for future generations.
We are not a nonprofit. We are simply racing fans that love the sport of Horse Racing and preserve history.
About our Founder
Christopher James was born in Queens NY and became a fan of both Thoroughbred and harness racing with his favorite racetracks being the NYRA circuit and Finger Lakes for the thoroughbreds and Roosevelt/Yonkers for the harness side. When Roosevelt was being dismantled, he had a passion to preserve the history of Roosevelt and became an advocate for the sport of kings and a racing historian. Now 33 years later since its demise, The website has never been bigger and yet it continues to grow.
